My 3.0TDI also failed in the same way yours did, but a week prior to the failure I did the belt, water pump, thermostat & tensioner, just wish I had done the pulley. You will only be able to put the front end in the lock carrier position, as the gearbox oil cooler is part of the rad. 1 0 0.
