The XF Diesel, especially in new S form pictured, would be an idea pursuit car. The new, higher power XF cranks out a stolid 271bhp and ticks all the key detective criteria: 0-60mph in 5.9sec
The S is way superior but it depends what you want/need from a car. My favourite thing about the X type was the permanent 4 wheel drive which in the winter is extremely useful. This I believe is only on the 2.5 or 3 litre engines. The X was built on a Mondeo chassis when ford over took Jaguar.
The post-2004 facelift S-Type was a fine car. In Shed's possibly worthless opinion, the 2.7 diesel version was not only the best S-Type by far but one of the best Jaguar all-rounders ever. We have a 2006 S Type 2.7 Diesel. The issue is the orange warning light is coming on (usually on first startup but sometimes during a journey) and the car goes into restricted performance mode.
